Sleep Monitoring System Technology
Sleep Monitoring System Technology Fully equipped quilt Improve your sleep with new media and communication technology Explosion of information and advance of technology boost our life into a faster paced mode than ever before. This fast paced life increases the productivity of the whole society, but at the same time, brings healthy problems to an increasing number of individuals. Sleeping is one of the most important aspect of our daily life, as well as a critical period for fixing the damage we have done to our bodies in the daytime. However, more and more people are losing their sleeping due to the pressure comes from outside world, leading to a vicious circle to their health. The product, a quilt, introduced in this article will be devoted to improving sleep and health conditions of the group of people who have sleep disorders and potential health problems. It will make use of the known facts of health indicators and existing technologies to inform the current health condition of the user and help with getting better experience in sleeping. Health Indicator Detector There are many things that people will use every day, the one with the longest consecutive using period is our quilt. The quilt I design takes advantage of this characteristics, making use of touch-skin sensors to detect and monitor userââ¬â¢s health indicators in a quiet and precise way. One of the basic functions of this part is measuring body temperature. Traditional mercury thermometer will not be used, instead of it, infrared thermometer will be a better way to go. An infrared thermometer is a thermometer which indicates temperature from a part of the thermal radiation emitted by the object being measured. It can be used to help aim the thermometer, to describe the devices ability to measure temperature in a certain distance. By knowing the amount of infrared energy emitted by the object and its emissivity, the objects temperature can often be determined (Infrared Thermometer). Another basic function for this part is measuring heartbeat. Since the heartbeatââ¬â¢s contraction is equal to the pulse, which is how many times a minute, our arteries expand because of the increase in blood pressure originated by our heartbeat. So the heartbeat is a very vital health parameter that is directly related to the soundness of the human cardiovascular system (Microcontroller Measures). The microcontroller, fingertip will be used for measuring heartbeat. Heartbeat will pump the blood go through the body and that makes the blood volume inside the finger artery to change too. This fluctuation can be used on an optical sensing mechanism to put on the fingertip. The signal can also be used in this microcontroller to calculate the volatility, it is actually in the heart rate is magnified. (Microcontroller Measures) Both these heartbeat measuring machine and infrared thermometer two devices will be placed in a Wi-Fi environment, and the data which is collected from the user will be transmitted to the personal computer. Users can set a certain indicator, if the data exceeds the normal values, it will warning the user to go to the hospital to check their body whether they have health problems or not. Wireless Sleeping Respiration Monitor To achieve the goal of monitoring usersââ¬â¢ respiration while sleeping, respiration sound sensor will be needed for the quilt. In addition, after detecting sleeping hazards like respiration arrest or sleep apnea, vibrate module hidden inside of the quilt will function to wake up the user to prevent further risk. The whole system consists of three major parts, monitoring and data collection device, wireless communication devices and vibrating wake-up device. Monitoring and data collection device, as known as respiration sound sensor, will sense the userââ¬â¢s respiration sound, reduce the noise, amplify and digitalize the signal and pass it to wireless communication module. Wireless communication device will take over the collected data, encapsulate it and then send it via either Wi-Fi connection or Bluetooth connection. Those connections are connected with a device with data processing power, our smartphones will easily serve the purpose. After processing the received data, the data processing device will inform the vibration unit whether it needs to wake up the user based on the result comparing to the data in an online database. If the vibration module receives the signal to wake up the user, it will send pulse vibration to userââ¬â¢s body to wake them up. The significance of the advantage is that sensors could be close to userââ¬â¢s nose and mouth to collect much better and precise data without interrupting or hindering the proper sleeping process. It improved the user experience by a remarkable amount from head-wearing devices with similar functions. In addition, the data is amplified and sent to userââ¬â¢s smartphone, a hand-held device, which increases the scalability. We could achieve more usage of the existing sensors by programming the applications on those hand-held devices, and keep them working properly and even better by distributing software/firmware updates over the internet. What if the computing devices is installed into the quilt? Users will feel hard to fall asleep because it is too heavy, and there could be hazards when the computing unit overheats over a period of intensive data processing. So using external hand-held device reduces the total weight and potential hazard of the quilt and in the meantime increase s the processing power and stability (Patent). Sleep Monitoring System There is no doubt for the importance of sleeping, but because of the quick paced and high pressure environment, we cannot have a good sleep, which will threaten our health. But with the development of advanced technology, we can use it to trace our sleeping status, to find the problems and solve it, in order to improve our sleeping quality. There are many applications exist on the phone, like in IOS platform, in the Android system and in the Windows Phone. The principle for smartphones and applications to monitor the sleep status are similar. They place an accelerometer in the phone to sense your action like turn over while you sleeping, in order to determine the depth of sleep. Of course, compare to the professional equipment, the monitor of mobile phones is not that much accurate, but the cost is much lower than other equipment. However, studies show that the radiation phone emit will affect the quality of our sleep. According to the working principle of the smartphone, an accelerometer can also be placed in the quilt, it will percept the userââ¬â¢s motion during sleep more precisely. There will also a small microphone in the quilt, it can record userââ¬â¢s fudge while their sleeping. Like I mentioned in the Health Indicator Detector, the recorder is also connected with Wi-Fi or Bluetooth, transmitted to the personal computer or application on the smartphone. Besides this, tiny speaker can also be placed with the microphone, since the system can be connected with the personal computer, user can play some white noise in the speaker, which can be used to block snoring and other unwanted sounds, leading to deeper, more restful sleep (White Noise). When the system find out the user enter a deep sleep, it will pause playing the white noise. This system can be used by anyone who even has little knowledge of scientific facts about sleeping or biology to easily track their status of sleeping. Reports could also be generated for a day, a week or a month based on the stored data in the personal computing device. It is really helpful for users to figure out what the trend of sleeping quality is like, either becoming better or worse. Additionally, the reports could be used for consulting doctors and physicians for what they need to improve their sleeping. Conclusion This quilt is not a product with totally new media or communication technology. It is a practical product with many existing technologies to provide an innovative service, and all the technologies used in this product have been used in years and are very mature in the market. However, products that can provide the similar convenience as the quilt does havenââ¬â¢t been found yet. Tossing and turning will not be a huge obstacle anymore for them to fall asleep with the help of white noise. Potential health hazards could also be found out be various monitoring system and data analyzing device. We can imagine that if this quilt arrives in store, it could save an enormous group of people with sleeping problems and using the media and communication technology to serve people, to help them feel better when the night comes. How My Brother Leon Brought Home a Wife Essay
This might be my second read of How My Brother Leon Brought Home A Wife but this is definitely the first Iââ¬â¢ve tried to digest the beauty of the prose as an experience in itself. However, unlike more fortunate literature buffs who have their own copy of How My Brother Leon Brought Home A Wife (And Other Stories), I had to rely on Baul to give me a similar fantastic ride to Nagrebcan, Bauang, La Union. Shame! Manuel Viloria says the collection was only twenty pesos. The story, like most of Arguillaââ¬â¢s prose, transpires in Barrio Nagrebcan in La Union, the birthplace of Manuel E. Arguilla himself. Youââ¬â¢ll immediately realize how the writer loves his hometown by the vivid imagery and sensuality that he offers on the plate. From the shapes and the sounds to even the scent of the air, Arguilla spares no detail to prove that beauty exists in Nagrebcan. From the title, you can surmise what type of story this is and how it could develop as it goes along. Leon is actually the big brother of the main protagonist, the wielder of the mystic point-of-view, but his wife takes to him as Noel as the latter coinage is presumably a modern twist of Leon though obviously it is an inversion of the word. Baldo is the little brother and Maria, Baldo taking traditional names into mind as he hears her name for the first time, is the wife whom Leon/Noel brought back home. Maria is actually city bred and Leon/Noel and Baldo are blatantly townsfolk. Thereââ¬â¢s the culture clash that serves to be the conflict, though only between the father and the oblivious Maria. Since Leon/Noel brought Maria to Nagrebcan, it can be presumed that theyââ¬â¢ll be staying there. As a precaution, unbeknownst to even Leon/Noel and Baldo, their father have asked the younger son to do certain things out of the norm just to see if the wife can really adjust to her new setting à ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã¢â¬Å" the barrio and the family. Read more: How My Brother Leon Brought Home a Wife by Manuel Arguilla Certain characters, with depth, to note are their sister Aurelia and the bull Labang. What I like about the short story is Arguillaââ¬â¢s character development. They seem to just pop out of the text, giving the reader an impression that they could have been, and could very well be, real people. Most writers often base their characters on real life acquaintances. Whether Arquilla went deeper or not, he still pulled it off and impressively, if I may be so bold. The ending reflected Baldoââ¬â¢s attraction to Maria or, to be more specific, to the notion of finding his own wife someday. In its entirety, How My Brother Leon Brought Home A Wife focuses on the aforementioned culture clash or the setting shift when someone from the barrio or the city is transported to the other. The concept is distinctly Filipino but essentially global. People outside of the Metro (Manila, specifically) wish to travel, and to a greater extent, live in the modernist capital because it is widely believed that theyââ¬â¢ll find greater pleasures and successes there. In other words, it borders on a ââ¬Å"grass is greenâ⬠idea or immigration issues. Arguilla makes me want to go visit Nagrebcan and spend one night there.

Commentary on The Unbearable Lightness of Being Essay
This commentary will explore the use of vocabulary, punctuation and imagery by Milan Kundera in an extract of the novel The Unbearable Lightness of Being . The passage to be analysed is located in the fourth part of the book named ââ¬Å"Soul and Bodyâ⬠. It portrays a scene where one of the main characters, Tereza, is in front of a mirror and finds herself dealing with the conflict between identity and image. Her disconformities with her body act as a trigger for this questioning to arise and bring back memories from her childhood. The entire passage is structured in three sections: one where she criticises her body, another where queries arise from these observations and finally one where she demonstrates her definite opinion on the situation.â⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Some of these are highlighted by repetition like ââ¬Å"very large, very dark circlesâ⬠. The metaphor at the end of the paragraph on pornography conveys a feeling of vulgarity, violence and despicability . The idea of the body as a means for sex is a theme around which the passage also revolves and we are introduced to it by the inclusion of the term ââ¬Å"pornographyâ⬠. As a consequence, the reader is impacted and comprehends Terezaââ¬â¢s deep concerns and overall heaviness of her character. We are accustomed to long sentences from the beginning, successful tool for the author to elongate and deepen the imagery of the passage. In addition, they simulate movement and provide the reader with the idea of Terezaââ¬â¢s eyes moving along her skin, examining every detail of it. After this description, Kundera follows to a set of questions that arise in Terezaââ¬â¢s mind. This change in punctuation clearly introduces the reader into a new environment, a more philosophical one where Tereza deliberates upon the relationship between soul and body. Kunderaââ¬â¢s choice of separating each of these thoughts into different, short paragraphs gives the sensation of thoughts flashing up in the characterââ¬â¢s mind. Simultaneously, it pauses the reader in order to be able to answer those doubts from their own perspective. Nonetheless, Kundera grants Tereza anShow MoreRelated Commentary on Alphonso Lingisââ¬â¢s article, The World as a Whole1695 Words à |à 7 PagesCommentar y on Alphonso Lingisââ¬â¢s article, ââ¬Å"The World as a Wholeâ⬠Martin Heideggerââ¬â¢s work in Being and Time elucidated a phenomenological ontology in which death and anxiety function as the imminent possibility of impossibility, circumscribing Dasein and inscribing weight to Daseinââ¬â¢s temporal existence. The Dream Is A Wish Your Heart Makes - 1287 Words
If you look up the word dream in a dictionary, the definition will be something along the lines of ââ¬Å"a succession of images, thoughts or emotions passing through the mind during sleepâ⬠, yet if you ask Disney, ââ¬Å"a dream is a wish your heart makesâ⬠. Ta-Nehisi Coates, author of ââ¬Å"Between the World and Meâ⬠, writes about the world and all the ugly truths it holds in hopes of preparing his son for the life ahead of him. Coates wants his son to grow up and live a safe life following The Dream, similar to how Martin Luther King Jr talked of a world he dreamt where his children would have social and economic equality. Similar to Ta-Nehisi, King also wanted his kids to live in a world where they will be treated just like all the white kids, with fair treatment, the same rights, and equal opportunity. It is through people like King that a nation is able to take bigger steps in the right direction. When people are able to put their fears aside, they are enabling oneself to stand up for what is right. By Martin Luther King Jr taking a stand against what is going on the country, he was able to light a fire under other people and encourage them to speak up against what they believe is wrong. He not only inspired the people of his generation to take a stand, but set a precedent for the generations to follow. A prisoner on the other hand, probably has a vastly different dream from Martin Luther King Jr and Coates, but with similar underlying factors. Those who are locked up, have h opes of being released and getting out of jail so they can be treated as a real member of society and for some, be reunited with their family. It represents the true upper class of society, those that can truly afford to possess such an object. Madame Forestier feels comfortable allowing Madame Loisel to borrow the necklace. Moral Force Protesting Essay Example For Students
Moral Force Protesting Essay Moral Force ProtestingMoral force protest has a greater chance to succeed that physical force protest. Discuss in relation to our contemporary world. In the modern world today, there is an immense diversity of global issueswhich are constantly being dealt with. Moral force protest as well as physicalforce protest are used, in hope of achieving a purpose and proving a point. Forboth of these acts of protest, there must be a substantial amount of facts andevidences backing it up. Both protests, no matter how its done, are in some wayseeking for the support of the leaders, most of the time, the leaders beingthe government. Moral force protest involves logical convincing speeches which are fightingfor a cause within the boundaries of law. Its possible to legally get enoughsupport for a cause and eventually win by never once using any sort of violence. In some cases, hunger strikes by the victims are also done. Aside from wellconstructed speeches and hunger strikes, the refusal to obey certain laws andthe passive resistance, that is, resisting to incoming violence usually from thegovernment, are other ways to morally protest without any physical violence. Sometimes due to the refusal to abide to certain laws the supporters may findabusive, the moral force protest supporters might find themselves confrontingthe law, and perhaps even acting illegally. In recent years, certain countrieswhich hadnt previously given women the right to vote changed their decision byreceiving strong moral force protest; this right was gained, and nowadays inthose countries women possess the right to vote. Physical force wasnt in anyway used in this case. The opposing way to support some strong cause can be through physical forceprotests. This involves violent protests which may harm people purposely. Destructive attitude from the people supporting a cause by using physical forceis indeed very common. In most cases violence is used in hope of gettingattention and media publicity. Physical force protest, has a very distinctivedifference from moral force protest; one of the most important ones being that,by violence, these supporters are terrorising the general public, and trying toget the government to recognise their terrorism, and give in. Moral forceprotest is not even remotely linked with terrorism. Not in any way, do the supporters practising moral force protest adapt toterrorism like do these physical force supporters. By terrorising the generalpublic and the government itself, these supporters think theyll create such anintolerable situation that the government will give in to their extreme andsometimes unnecessary violence. Now, if any government is prepared to give intheir monopoly of violence over to a group supporting an intelligent andimportant cause through physical force protest, the situation is most likely todeteriorate rapidly. The governments monopoly of violence should constantlyremain intact, under no circumstance should it be put at risk, no matter howthreatening a situation they are facing. Violence should remain their monopoly. A few examples of physical force protest can be seen in recent IRA bombings;the purpose of the IRA being to gain independence for Northern Ireland fromBritain. So far, these bombings have proved to be counter productive, nevertheless, the IRA seem to be relentless. Therefore they continue toterrorise society and sometimes wound or even kill innocent people. Although not impossible to answer, the issue of whether which protest is moresuccessful, moral or physical, it is a very complex and contradiction filledsubject to discuss and come to a logical and correct conclusion to. Theacceptance of either form of protest can be in many ways extremely contradictory. .u7a954dd720f3c3cdc2675f3cdb87d7a1 , .u7a954dd720f3c3cdc2675f3cdb87d7a1 .postImageUrl , .u7a954dd720f3c3cdc2675f3cdb87d7a1 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u7a954dd720f3c3cdc2675f3cdb87d7a1 , .u7a954dd720f3c3cdc2675f3cdb87d7a1:hover , .u7a954dd720f3c3cdc2675f3cdb87d7a1:visited , .u7a954dd720f3c3cdc2675f3cdb87d7a1:active { border:0!important; } .u7a954dd720f3c3cdc2675f3cdb87d7a1 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u7a954dd720f3c3cdc2675f3cdb87d7a1 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u7a954dd720f3c3cdc2675f3cdb87d7a1:active , .u7a954dd720f3c3cdc2675f3cdb87d7a1:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u7a954dd720f3c3cdc2675f3cdb87d7a1 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u7a954dd720f3c3cdc2675f3cdb87d7a1 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u7a954dd720f3c3cdc2675f3cdb87d7a1 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u7a954dd720f3c3cdc2675f3cdb87d7a1 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u7a954dd720f3c3cdc2675f3cdb87d7a1:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u7a954dd720f3c3cdc2675f3cdb87d7a1 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u7a954dd720f3c3cdc2675f3cdb87d7a1 .u7a954dd720f3c3cdc2675f3cdb87d7a1-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u7a954dd720f3c3cdc2675f3cdb87d7a1:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Sex Education in the Public School System EssayDue to the sea of information that surrounds this issue, many valid argumentscan be cleverly twisted in order to support or go against either side. Whilesome people may see their own argument as being absolutely valid and completelytrue in favour of moral protest force, someone else can easily turn around thatsame argument and use it against moral force protest, and in favour of physicalforce protest, still seeing the argument and reasons as a definite truth. Afterall, truth is the real state of things, according to each individual. A reasonable speech clearly justifying any reasons backing up a specificcause may be a lot more effective than acting upon blatant violence to gain theneeded attention to support a global cause. If the fight for a cause consists ofthoughtful and intelligent reasons, it is likely that the case stated will beheard attentively; more so than if any kind of physical force was used. Validfacts and accurate statistics and information that act within the law have ahigh chance of achieving their goal due to the fact that there are noillegalities being used, no crime is committed, no panic should be feared. Martin Luther King Jr. fought with all his might and power in favour of theblacks of the United States; never once using force, his speeches and protestswere tremendously well received, and always heard. He is in fact, mostremembered for his I have a dream speech, which caused many Americans to stopand think about the cause being fought. By purely using moral force protest,Luther King ended racism in the US of A, although there are still some cases ofextreme racism there, Luther Kings fight clearly decreased it greatly. Nevertheless, his fight was hard and long, and in more ways than none, incredibly successful, therefore very much worth it. Hunger strikes such as the ones used by the people under the leadership ofGandhi in India, could prove to be extremely effective if done right. Gandhi wasfighting for the independence of India, he wanted freedom from the English, andwas prepared to do everything he could within the limits of moral force protest. By refusing to stand for violence, some people under his leadership wereprepared to lay down on the ground and block the way for tanks to pass. In someways, this could be considered illegal, and the government has the right to evenarrest them, but then again, they are technically not doing anything wrong byobstructing the path for these tanks to come; or more innocently put, by simplylying on the street. The refusal to obey the law can be considered illegal, but to a certainextent, some laws for being blatantly abusive to the general public, can andprobably will be ignored by some people, understandably so. Physics force protest has been recently used in Israel and in the UK. TheArabs with their suicide bombers are killing needlessly and coldly to showtheir discontent with the peace process started by the Israelis. Violence toshow ones discontent in the way a country is going about trying to bring peace,is undoubtfully ironic and almost unexplainable. By destroying the human raceand trying to terrorise the Israelis, the Arabs arent gaining anything at all, theyre simply gaining publicity which shouldnt be given to them in the fistplace, for their acts are simply monstrous. The IRA is also a very good example of supporters fighting for a strong andjust cause by means of violence. The cause the IRA are constantly fighting foris actually one that could indeed be expressed in moral force protest andperhaps maybe even justified. By turning to violence, the IRA as well as theArabs are immediately ruling out any possibilities of winning their causes. Theyare, in the long run, doomed to failure. .u826a46842a318506f9d9fccd61f95d87 , .u826a46842a318506f9d9fccd61f95d87 .postImageUrl , .u826a46842a318506f9d9fccd61f95d87 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u826a46842a318506f9d9fccd61f95d87 , .u826a46842a318506f9d9fccd61f95d87:hover , .u826a46842a318506f9d9fccd61f95d87:visited , .u826a46842a318506f9d9fccd61f95d87:active { border:0!important; } .u826a46842a318506f9d9fccd61f95d87 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u826a46842a318506f9d9fccd61f95d87 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u826a46842a318506f9d9fccd61f95d87:active , .u826a46842a318506f9d9fccd61f95d87:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u826a46842a318506f9d9fccd61f95d87 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u826a46842a318506f9d9fccd61f95d87 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u826a46842a318506f9d9fccd61f95d87 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u826a46842a318506f9d9fccd61f95d87 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u826a46842a318506f9d9fccd61f95d87:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u826a46842a318506f9d9fccd61f95d87 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u826a46842a318506f9d9fccd61f95d87 .u826a46842a318506f9d9fccd61f95d87-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u826a46842a318506f9d9fccd61f95d87:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Ready For The Shot Essay Todays world has enough violence and terrorism surrounding its environmentto even consider using any sort of inadequate violence to fight for a cause, nomatter how important. When so many progress can be acquired by simply usingones intelligence and logic and supporting a cause following moral forceprotest, why should anyone even stop to consider opting for useless and wastefulviolence is completely beyond me. No government will ever give in to violenceused in order to gain popularity and create havoc for any global issue. Thequest to terrorise their way through, by any supporters using physical forceprotest, is in fact, counter productive, for its never actually proven to haveworked. Moral force protest can usually be very effective and successful. Itshould be strongly considered, specially since we are now living in a time whenviolence seems intent on destroying us. Keep the peace. History
